From abroad
Renting an RV from Switzerland.
Wohnmobil mieten für Burning Man, von der Schweiz aus. Der Führerausweis ist nicht automatisch Englisch. Wir buchen das Fahrzeug nicht, und wir gehören nicht zu Burning Man Project.
A Swiss licence can be in German, French, or Italian. The fleet does not care which canton issued it. They care whether they can read it, and whether you told them the desert is the destination.
We are an independent outfitter. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Burning Man Project. The event name is used so you know which week this is for.
If the licence is not in English, Travellers Autobarn's US terms want an IDP or an accredited English translation beside the original. El Monte's FAQ wants a translation in that case and refuses a provisional licence. Cruise America wants the physical licence and a passport, and refuses a digital licence. Get the permit from the canton that issued the licence, before you fly. We are not that office. Switzerland is not in the EU, and that does not change the counter. The contract is still American.
Zurich and Geneva flights usually land in San Francisco, Los Angeles, or Las Vegas. Reno is often a second flight. A pickup in one of those cities and a drop in another is a one-way. Cruise America's 2026 notes list $750 to or from Reno. Book only the one-way that company publishes. A same-day pickup after a long flight is allowed on their notes and is still a gamble. A night in town is welcome.
A motorhome is the bed, the tanks, and the generator. There are no hookups. A campervan is easier to drive and often has no toilet. Split one contract among the people sleeping in it. The vehicle pass is separate, on the city's ticketing page. The fleets that forbid the event are not a Swiss exception.
The rig parks at camp. The bike is the rest of the week. Buy one in Reno or rent one in Reno, Sparks, Nixon, or Gerlach. Lights, a lock, and a flag are still yours. The French and German pages on this site cover the same trip in those languages.
Licence, deposit, and the same-day flight rule for every passport are on the flying-in page. The week itself, for someone who has not done this city, is the guide for people flying in. Renting the rig is the Burning Man RV page. Flying in without the box? Ship the gear to Reno. The bike, once the rig is parked, is the bike guide from abroad. The companies that forbid the trip are on the comparison.

Companies that publish a US rule.
Air conditioning after a whiteout, a real bed, and a door that seals the dust. These are the rigs worth booking.
Links open the company page. None of them carry a tracking code. We are not affiliated with Burning Man Project. How the links work.

Questions
- Does a Swiss licence need an IDP to rent in the US?
- When it is not in English, Travellers Autobarn's US terms and El Monte's FAQ both ask for an IDP or a translation. Cruise America asks for the physical licence and a passport, and refuses a digital licence. Read the fleet you booked. Bring the original card either way.
- Which airport matches a Burning Man RV pickup?
- Reno-Tahoe for Reno and Sparks. San Francisco, Los Angeles, or Las Vegas for those counters. A one-way between them is only the route that company already publishes.
