The split

Splitting a Burning Man RV with campmates.

One rig is one contract. Split the total that company actually charges, including the cleaning fee on their page. The vehicle pass is a different bill. We do not publish a per-person rental price.

We are an independent outfitter. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Burning Man Project. The event name is used so you know which week this is for. We do not book the rental.

The rental is one contract in one person's name. The company bills that contract. Campmates can split it. They cannot invent a second price. The cleaning fee or supplementary fee on that company's page is part of the total, not a surprise for the person who drew the short straw on exodus. El Monte, Road Bear, Travellers Autobarn, Indie Campers, and Escape each print their own figure. The rental guide keeps them next to the company. We do not average them.

Lines that are not the rental

The vehicle pass is $165 before taxes and fees, one pass for every two tickets. It can be split, and it is still not a line on the rental quote. Generator hours, if the contract meters them, and a pump-out voucher, if you buy one, are the same kind of extra. Add them only if you will owe them. A one-way fee belongs in the split only when that one-way is on the reservation. Cruise America's Reno one-way is on their notes. It is not a fee you paste onto El Monte.

Sharing a rig is not a package

The camping guidelines say a company or a camp that sells a package of ticket, transportation, RV, food, bikes, and costumes is not allowed. They publish an email for reporting it. Splitting a rig among people who already hold tickets is not that package. Selling a turnkey week is. If the camp does not allow RVs, the split does not overrule the camp.

Write the names and the published fees down before the deposit. The sleeping count is the listing you booked, not a number we made up for a floor plan. The decision of whether to rent at all is the hub, and the bed-versus-tent version is the RV or tent note.

How to split a Burning Man RV rental

  1. 1. Write down who is sleeping in the rig

Use the sleeping count on the listing you are booking. We do not invent a head count for a floor plan we have not opened.

  2. 2. List the fees that company publishes

The rental, the cleaning fee or supplementary fee, a one-way fee if you booked one, and the generator meter if the contract has one. Each number stays on that company's page.

  3. 3. Keep the vehicle pass separate

The city's ticketing page lists the pass at $165 before taxes and fees, capped at one pass for every two tickets. It is not part of the rental quote.

  4. 4. Agree the split before anyone pays

The person on the contract is the one the company will bill. A handshake after the dust is a worse plan than a note before the deposit.

Questions

How do you split an RV rental for Burning Man?
Divide the total on that company's contract, including the cleaning or supplementary fee they publish, by the people sleeping in the rig. Add the generator and the pump-out only if you will actually owe them. Do not use another fleet's fee as the number.
Does the vehicle pass get split too?
It can, and it is still a separate charge. The ticketing page lists it at $165 before taxes and fees, with one pass for every two tickets. The rental company does not sell that pass.
Can we sell RV spots as a Burning Man package?
No. The camping guidelines say a package that sells a ticket, transportation, an RV, food, bikes, and costumes together is not allowed, and they give an email for reporting it. Sharing a rig you already booked, among people who have their own tickets, is a different thing from selling that package.
