Power
The RV generator at Burning Man.
There is no hookup. The generator is the air conditioning, and it is also the noise your neighbor hears. The contract is the bill. The city's page is the hour.
We are an independent outfitter. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Burning Man Project. The event name is used so you know which week this is for. We do not book the rental.
The event FAQ says there are no hookups. Power is a generator, batteries, or solar, and they ask you to run a generator sparingly. The RV guidelines add the other half: run it at least an hour a day so the battery can still start the rig when you leave, and do not leave it on for long stretches. Noisy generators are on their list of reasons an RV annoys the camp next door.
The meter is the contract
That same RV page says rental companies usually include some free generator time and then charge, and it says the usual free allowance is up to three hours. That sentence is about rental companies in general. It is not your invoice. Cruise America's 2026 client notes publish the meter they use: $3.50 an hour, or $8 a day if you prepay unlimited use. In the US, every vehicle has a generator except the C18. El Monte, Escape, and a peer-to-peer listing do not get that meter pasted onto them. Escape's vans have no generator of that kind to begin with. Read the fleet you booked.
Fuel, and the hours it is off
El Monte's guide says there is no fuel inside the city, and that Gerlach is the last services. Buy the gas before that. When the generator is off, the fridge and the lights are a battery problem. That arithmetic is the camp power note. Shade over the camp is still lagged. A cloth tied only to the bumper is a sail. The wind guide is that job, and the overview of the rental is renting an RV.
How to run a rental RV generator at Burning Man
1. Read the generator line on the contract
The event's RV page says rental companies usually include some free generator time and then charge. Cruise America's 2026 notes publish their own meter. Another fleet does not inherit that meter.
2. Fuel the rig before the desert
El Monte's guide says there is no fuel inside the city, and that Gerlach is the last services. Do not plan on buying gas on playa.
3. Run it long enough to leave, and not all night
The RV guidelines say to run the generator at least an hour a day so the battery can start the rig, and not to leave it on for long stretches.
4. Point the noise away from sleep
The same page lists noisy generators as a reason neighbors hate RVs. The exhaust and the door face the camp's own interior, not the next camp's beds.

Questions
- Do you need a generator for an RV at Burning Man?
- There are no power hookups. The event FAQ says power is your own generator, batteries, or solar, and asks you to run a generator sparingly. Air conditioning on a rental motorhome is the generator. A campervan with no generator is a different machine.
- How many generator hours does a rental include?
- The event's RV page says companies usually allow some free time and then charge, and it mentions three hours as the usual free allowance. That is their generalization. Cruise America's 2026 notes publish $3.50 an hour, or $8 a day if you prepay unlimited use, and every US vehicle except the C18 has a generator. The contract you signed is the one that bills you.
- Can the generator run all night?
- The RV guidelines say not to leave it on for long periods, and they list the noise as a problem for other camps. An hour a day is the floor they give so the battery can still start the rig. A neighbor's sleep is the ceiling.
