The tanks

Burning Man RV dumping and pump-out.

There is no dump station in the city. Gray water and black water stay in the tanks, leave with a pump-out, or wait for a legal dump after you are out.

We are an independent outfitter. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Burning Man Project. The event name is used so you know which week this is for. We do not book the rental.

The event FAQ says you do not discharge gray water or sewage. The RV guidelines say there is no dumping station on site, and that the BLM cites a gray-water or black-water dump. The 2026 Survival Guide says the same thing in plainer language: no recreational-vehicle dumping station or servicing in the city, and the only vendor it names for cash pump-outs is United Site Services. That pump-out removes wastewater. It does not fill drinking water.

The gray tank fills first

The RV guidelines say most rigs have a bigger fresh tank than a gray tank, and that a long shower fills the gray side first. Wipes and a short rinse are the week. Dishes make gray water too. The gray-water page is the camp practice for water that never went into an RV tank: catch it, and do not pour it on the playa. An RV tank is not an evaporation pond. Do not empty one into the other.

Pump-out, then a legal dump

The sanitation page is the truck, the voucher, and a hose of about 30 feet. Leave a path. Someone has to be there. The RV guidelines print a fee for that service and also say the service can change. The FAQ says the logistics may differ from last year. We are not picking one of those sentences and calling it this year's price. The camping guidelines say open camping cannot pre-arrange a pump. You flag the truck.

After you leave, the dump is a legal station, not the playa and not the Gerlach potable fill. The water page is containers of drinking water. People ask for a dump between Reno and the event. We are not going to name a truck stop we have not opened a page for. The hoses that do this job, and the rule that they never share a bin, are the note on living in the rig. The RV week kit is the drinking hose and the sewer kit. It is not the rental.

How to handle RV wastewater at Burning Man

  1. 1. Test the tanks before you leave the lot

Fill the fresh tank, run the sink, flush the toilet, check the caps, and look underneath for leaks. The event's RV page is that test.

  2. 2. Keep gray and black water in the tanks

Do not dump on the playa. The event FAQ and the RV guidelines both forbid it, and the guidelines say the BLM cites that dump.

  3. 3. Make less gray water

Most rigs have a bigger fresh tank than a gray tank. A long shower fills the gray side first. Wipes and a short rinse are how the tank lasts.

  4. 4. Use a pump-out, or a legal dump after you leave

Flag a servicing truck if the city is running that service, or haul the tanks to a legal dump. The Gerlach potable fill is not a dump.

Questions

Can you dump an RV at Burning Man?
No. There is no dumping station in the city, and you may not dump gray or black water on the playa. The 2026 Survival Guide says the BLM cites dumping or leaking tanks, and names United Site Services for cash pump-outs. That service removes wastewater. It is not a potable fill.
How does a Burning Man RV pump-out work?
The sanitation page is the truck, the voucher, and a hose that reaches about 30 feet. Someone from camp has to show the driver the rig. The older RV guidelines print a fee schedule and also say servicing can change. The event FAQ says the logistics may differ from last year. Read both before you treat a printed number as this year's price.
Where do you dump gray water after Burning Man?
At a legal dump station after you leave the playa. We do not publish a roadside address we have not opened a company or city page for. The Gerlach fill on the city's water page is drinking water for containers. It is not a sewer.
