The bed
An RV or a tent for Burning Man.
Both are allowed. An RV changes the tanks, the generator, and the cleaning bill. A tent still needs shade, water, and a bag for a cold night. We are not going to pretend a price we did not quote is the decider.
We are an independent outfitter. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Burning Man Project. The event name is used so you know which week this is for. We do not book the rental.
The camping guidelines list tents and RVs as ordinary ways to sleep. The RV guidelines are honest about the rig: it sells out, the generator is noisy, and a week spent inside it is a strange reason to have come. They also print dollar examples for a rental and for gas. Those examples are theirs, and a rental price moves, so we are not repeating them as this year's quote. The number you can plan on is the one on the company page the week you book.
What the RV actually changes
A motorhome adds a toilet, a shower, and tanks. The gray tank fills first, there is no dump on playa, and the cleaning fee is the company's. Air conditioning runs while the generator runs. There are no hookups. A campervan from a fleet with no plumbing does not give you those tanks, so the toilet plan is still yours. The dumping note and the generator note are the two jobs people underestimate.
What a tent still has to solve
A tent does not delete the sun. The tent note is a full fly under shade. The shade note is the cloth and the frame. Nights still drop. The cold-night note is the bag. Water is still gallons in jugs, on the water plan, because a tent has no fresh tank. The vehicle pass is for the car that carried the tent, not for the tent.
People on the forums argue this with personal totals. We are not going to launder a comment into a price. If the group wants air conditioning and will pay the contract, including the cleaning fee, the rig is the bed. If the group wants the week outside and will build shade, the tent is the bed. The rental itself is the hub.

Questions
- Is an RV better than a tent at Burning Man?
- The event allows both. The RV guidelines list the rig as useful and also noisy, isolating, and quick to sell out. A tent under shade is the other legal bed. Neither page crowns a winner. The rental price is on the company page, and it moves, so we do not publish a comparison total.
- Will an RV stay cool without the generator?
- No. There are no hookups, and the air conditioner is the generator. The box still heats up in the sun when the generator is off. Shade over the camp is a separate build. A tent in the sun, with no shade, is an oven for the same reason.
- Does a tent skip the vehicle pass?
- The vehicle pass is for the motor vehicle that drives in, other than a motorcycle. A tent does not remove the pass on the car that carried it. A towed trailer is the exception the city's help page names. Read that page for the year you are going.
