Do I need an IDP for a German licence?

Yes, on the pages that require one when the licence is not in English. Travellers Autobarn's terms and El Monte's FAQ both say that. Bring the original card as well. A translation does not replace it.

A German licence is not an English licence. That is the line on the two fleets that publish a translation rule. The English below is the same rule, with the links.

We are an independent outfitter. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Burning Man Project. The event name is used so you know which week this is for. We do not book the rental.

Travellers Autobarn's US terms, section 8.1.2, require an International Driving Permit if the licence is not in English, or an accredited English translation beside the original. Their FAQ is softer. It says an international licence is not required and is recommended, and it recommends one again for a digital licence that is not American. The terms are the contract. El Monte's FAQ requires an International Driver's License translation when the original has no English, and they do not accept a temporary or provisional licence. Cruise America's notes want a physical licence and a foreign passport. They do not accept a digital licence. All three ask for drivers to be at least 21.

The fee for the desert is separate from the licence. Declare the trip. Travellers' supplementary fee, El Monte's cleaning language, and Cruise America's late-August deposit are on their own pages. A German booking does not skip them.

Fly into a city that has a counter you have already read: Reno, the Bay Area, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, or Salt Lake. Same-day pickup is allowed on Cruise America's notes, and they will not hold the rig for a late flight. Call the center. The vehicle tour they describe is about 25 minutes, and some centers have a video in more than one language. Ask which language when you call. We have not watched that video.

Licence, deposit, and the same-day flight rule for every passport are on the flying-in page. The week itself is renting an RV for Burning Man. The companies that forbid it are on the comparison.
