From abroad
Renting an RV from Scandinavia.
The searches are hyra husbil, leie bobil, and leje autocamper. They are the same errand: rent the rig in the United States. The census does not publish a Nordic residence line of its own. The licence is still not English, and the flight is its own problem.
We are an independent outfitter. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Burning Man Project. The event name is used so you know which week this is for.
A Swedish, Norwegian, or Danish licence is not an English licence. Travellers Autobarn's US terms want an IDP or an accredited English translation in that case. El Monte's FAQ wants a translation and refuses a provisional licence. Cruise America wants the physical licence and a passport, and refuses a digital licence. Get the permit at home, from the authority that issues it where you live, before you fly. We are not going to mix up the Swedish, Norwegian, and Danish offices in one sentence.
Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Oslo usually connect onward to San Francisco, Los Angeles, or Las Vegas. Reno is often one more flight. A same-day pickup is allowed on Cruise America's notes, and a missed connection is yours. A night in the city of the counter is the kinder plan. If the return leaves from a different airport, that is a one-way. Their 2026 notes list $750 to or from Reno. Another fleet may not offer it.
A motorhome is the bed, the tanks, and the generator. There are no hookups and no dump in the city. A campervan is easier to drive and often has no toilet. Split the one contract among the people sleeping in it. The vehicle pass is the city's line. Finland is the same shape of trip if the licence is not in English. We are not pretending the census ranked the region.
The rig parks at camp. Buy or rent the bike in Reno, Sparks, Nixon, or Gerlach. Lights, a lock, and a flag are still yours. A frame in the hold from Stockholm is the worse plan when a Reno bike is the errand after you land.
Licence, deposit, and the same-day flight rule for every passport are on the flying-in page. The week itself, for someone who has not done this city, is the guide for people flying in. Renting the rig is the Burning Man RV page. Flying in without the box? Ship the gear to Reno. The bike, once the rig is parked, is the bike guide from abroad. The companies that forbid the trip are on the comparison.

Companies that publish a US rule.
Air conditioning after a whiteout, a real bed, and a door that seals the dust. These are the rigs worth booking.

Questions
- Do I need an IDP if I live in Sweden, Norway, or Denmark?
- On the fleets that require one when the licence is not in English, yes. Travellers Autobarn's US terms and El Monte's FAQ both say that. Cruise America wants the physical licence and a passport, and refuses a digital licence. Get the permit at home before you fly.
- Can I rent the motorhome in Scandinavia and drive it over?
- No. The rental is in the United States, from a company that allows the desert. Hyra husbil, leie bobil, and leje autocamper, for this week, mean a US counter.
