Before you fly

Timing your delivery

Order from home, on Amazon.com, two to four weeks before you fly. Aim for the box to arrive one or two days before you land. This page does not know your flight date, so we are not printing a calendar day. Count back from the day you fly. The trip planner uses that same window.

   2 to 4 weeks before

   Place the order from home. The box ships inside the United States to Reno. It does not ride in the suitcase.

2. 2

   1 to 2 days before you land

   That is the arrival we would aim for. Early enough to be there, late enough that a short hold still covers you.

   A few days of holding

   A locker or a Hub counter is not a storage unit for the week you are still at home.

Plan on a few days, not a week. Amazon's pickup page says a locker holds a package for three days, and a staffed counter for seven. The same page says pickup times vary by location, and it tells you to read the confirmation email. Amazon's locker help is the other place that window is printed. If you will land more than a few days after the delivery, ship to the hotel or the Airbnb instead, and confirm they will hold it until check-in.

Some Amazon items let you choose a delivery date at checkout. Not all of them do. If that choice is missing, time the order so the usual delivery lands a day or two before you do.

Lockers have a size limit. Amazon's eligibility page is that rule. If checkout will not offer a locker, the item does not fit one. A shade structure, a stack of water jugs, or a long cot goes to the hotel, or to a carrier hold, for a piece you ordered through our links.
