The best tent for Burning Man is a full fly living under shade, because the failure at 9 a.m. is heat. This page is the other two failures. Dust packs a mesh wall. Wind walks a spike and turns a loose fly into a flag. We still will not name a winner we cannot link. The spec is the pick.
We are an independent outfitter. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Burning Man Project. The event name is used so you know which week this gear is for.

Each card opens the shop. Amazon links are affiliate links. Your price does not change. How the links work.
A mesh summer tent is how people wake up in a dune. The fly is the lid. A cap that only covers the peak leaves the mesh to the wind, and the wind is carrying flour. A full rainfly covers the inner tent. A door you can actually close matters more than a second room you will prop open. Orient the door out of the prevailing wind so the opening is not a scoop. Keep the shade off the fly enough that air can still move. The shade is doing the sun. The fly is doing the dust.
Seam-seal the floor at home if the maker says the seams need it. The hour to find the leak is not the hour it rains, and it is not the hour a dust film has turned the seam into mud. Set the tent up once in a yard. If the fly does not cover the mesh, it is the wrong tent, and the return is easier before the car is packed.
The short kinked spikes in the tent bag are the ones that walk. Guy every point. The metal we use is the same family as the shade anchors: a 12-inch lag that backs out with a socket, or rebar you cap. They are not the same product as a shade lag through a carport foot. Pull every one when you leave. A piece left behind finds a tire.
Which piece of metal, and why a shade lag is a different job from a guy point, is tent stakes for this wind. When the whole frame of the shade is the thing that might leave, that page is shade that stays put. The city's page is securing your structure. The Survival Guide is the rest of the week. If their page and this page disagree, pack to their page.

What we link
| What changes | Mesh, no fly | A cap over the peak | Full fly | A hard shell |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dust | You sleep in it. | The mesh below the cap still eats it. | The fly is the lid. Close the door. | People love them. We have no listing we will send you to. |
| Wind | A sail with nowhere to guy. | The same spikes, and a fly that flags. | Guy every point. Cheap poles still fail. | Their anchors, their manual, not a kit we invented. |
| What we link | We don't. | We don't. | A search for a full rainfly, plus the lags. | The tent page's refusal. Shade still goes over a nylon tent. |
Dust that got in anyway is on the floor, the bag, and the cot rails. A cot or a thick air bed stays off the playa, which is where the flour collects. A foot pump inflates the bed without spending the station. Shake the cot out before you fold it, or you grind the week into the hinges. The bag lives on the bed, in a bin, not loose in the trunk where it becomes a filter.
A vestibule is useful only if you use it as a door you can close, not as a porch you leave open into the wind. Boots can live there. A whiteout still belongs outside, with the goggles on, not with the inner door tied back "for a minute."
We do not have a wind-speed rating we are willing to repeat from a tent listing. The warranty text we have read on the shade frame does not cover weather damage, and a tent is not more magical. If the wind is winning, people get clear and the loose cloth comes down. A hard-shell shelter is a camp decision. Until we have a verified listing we will send someone to, this page stops at the full fly, the shade over it, and the metal in the ground.
The heat half of the same tent is sleeping when the day is too hot. The cot under the fly is a cot, not the ground. The sleep kit is the shopping list. Each piece is its own listing.
