Why it's on the list
Short tent spikes bend, walk out in the wind, and fight you on the way home. A lag bolt screws into the playa, holds, and comes back out with a socket. The 12-inch hex-head pack we opened is its own listing, washers included. Eighteen-inch rebar is the other point when you are driving a lot of stakes. Pull every one. A piece left behind finds a tire.
How we use it
One at every foot, not just the corners. Lags want a socket or an impact driver, and a head you can still reach after the dust packs it. Rebar wants a hammer and a hook to pull it. Cap every exposed end, or bend it into a candy cane. An open rod finds a shin in the dark. Angle them away from the load. Gloves on. Count them before you leave the hex.
Heads up
A lag into the ground is the shade anchor. A lag through a carport foot is a different job. Short kinked tent stakes are the hardware we stopped using. Uncapped rebar is how a camp hurts someone.
