Why it's on the list
Every packing list starts with shelter, and a mesh summer tent is how people wake up in a dune. Look for a full rainfly, a floor, and stake points you can actually guy out. It lives under the shade structure, not in the open as the only roof. We do not pick a brand war. The spec is the pick: fly on, dust out, rain out, and it comes home.
How we use it
Set it up once at home. Seam-seal if the maker says to. On playa, orient the door out of the prevailing wind and keep the shade off the fly so air can move. A tent in full sun with no shade over it is an oven by 9 a.m.
Heads up
The tent is not the shade structure. Cheap poles and a missing fly fail in the same wind that takes a slant-leg canopy.
