Gray-water jug

Burning Man camp gear

A sealed jug for dish water and wash water. None of it hits the playa.

Why it's on the list

The leave-no-trace list is explicit: wash water stays in a container. A five-gallon jug with a lid, marked GRAY so nobody drinks it, is the container. Strain the noodles out first. Haul it to a legal dump on the way out, or evaporate only if you already know the city's current rule and you are set up for it. When in doubt, you carry it home.

How we use it

Label it in big letters. Keep the lid on. A jug of gray water in the sun is heavy and fragrant. Do not mix it with the drinking jugs. The vinegar bottle is a different bottle.

Heads up

Gray water on the playa is moop, even if it looks clear. Soap, food, and dust are still in it.

Gray-water jug

A five-gallon jug is often $15–25
