Camp tapestry

Burning Man shade gear

A hemmed cloth wall for privacy. The roof is still Aluminet.

Why it's on the list

A tapestry is how a camp stops being a stage and starts being a room: shade on the west wall, a visual block from the street, a place to hang a lamp. Buy it large, hemmed, with grommets or a sleeve you can tie. Cotton or a tight weave. Fringe, sequins, feathers, and loose threads become moop the first time the wind tests the corner.

How we use it

Tie every corner to the frame with straps or cord, not a single clothespin. A loose wall is a sail. It hangs under the shade, beside the Aluminet, and it comes down before a wind event. Shake it into a bag at exodus.

Heads up

A tapestry is privacy and a little shade. It is not the structure, and it does not replace the open knit overhead.

Camp tapestry

A large hemmed one is often $20–50
